Grenades, Tsunamis, and Attitudes, Oh My!

It's done!  We're married!  We survived!!!

We both had such fantastic times at our wedding!  I personally had no idea that a wedding could be that fun.  I think it's the culmination of months of endless planning, all the stress and worry, and then BAM!  Par-tay!  it was awesome. =)

Getting to the awesome was a whole other mess.  Here's the breakdown:

Friday, February 26

Malcolm and Audrey picked up alcohol for the wedding in the trusty Toyota Sienna minivan.  While they were picking up the alcohol, I was at Kinkos picking up our programs and then waiting to have the order redone because Kinkos messed up.  They only printed one of the programs, totally forgetting the backside.  Although considering that no one got a program at the wedding (*sigh*), I guess it didn't matter too much.  But still.  Good job, FedEx/Kinkos aka FedEx Office.  Woo.

Finally, I got back to my house to pack up everything, and then Malcolm, Audrey and Theo came with 2 cars to load everything up.  Around 12 noon, we tried to leave but we couldn't because:

1.  Forgot my phone - Ran back into the house.
2.  Realized that we packed Cindy's (my future sister-in-law) bags that she takes to work at the hospital - Must unload
3.  Forgot phone charger - Ran back inside the house
4.  Wave by to the kitty and doggie sitting on the balcony.  Those cute little guys.

After much, much delay, we finally proceeded - Malcolm and Theo in Theo's CR-V, Audrey and I in the trusty Sienna.  I've got to say, the Sienna is a pretty sexy machine.  I am seeing the glory of the minivan.  Never thought I'd admit to it though...

Our plan was to go down to San Diego on the 5 freeway, stop by a Costco to pick up more alcohol (because a van-full is clearly not enough), swing by Escondido to our caterer Barry Layne's office to drop off the alcohol, and then go south to downtown San Diego to pick up our marriage license.

HA!

We zipped along in our caravan quite nicely until we hit Dana Point.  Then, the 5 freeway became a parking lot.  Apparently, there was a grenade on the freeway.  Oh, a grenade.  That little thing?  What is normally an hour drive south (OC to SD) took 4 HOURS.  Granted, Audrey and I may have taken a small little detour to surface streets to see if it was faster (it wasn't), but still.  4 HOURS?!?!

Finally, after fighting miles of traffic, a grenade, the bomb squad, the US marines, and hungry bellies, we finally made it to Escondido to drop off the alcohol.  After all that time we spent on the freeway, we didn't have time to get our marriage license, so I made an appointment for Monday to get our license and figured it really didn't matter.  More on that later.

That night, after the grenade drama, checking into the respective groomsmen and bridesmaids houses, we went to El Comal for dinner.  OMG, it was SOOOO YUMMY!!!  it's by far THE BEST Mexican food.  Growing up in San Diego, I've been kind of spoiled in really delicious Mexican food.  But, El Comal takes it all.  Granted, their salsas aren't as good as Michelle's mom's salsas (I mean, who's is?!), but their fish tacos were amazing!!!  I really want to go back just to eat their fish tacos.  I think it'll be worth every minute of the drive there, grenades included!

After a stressful drive down to SD, El Comal was the perfect ending.  Good food, great friends - what can be better??

oh...torrential downpour...did i mention the tsunami warning in La Jolla???

(i'll be back...must finish reading for class...)
